Frequently Asked Questions
Do I NEED to visit the dentist every six months?
The short answer is yes. In the past, patients only visited the dentist when they had a problem. This reactionary care often leads to more advanced treatments being necessary, increased risk for tooth loss, and difficulty reversing damage caused by insidious oral health concerns. Regular preventive checkups make it possible for the dentist to diagnose and treat common oral health issues in early stages.
If I don’t smoke, is oral cancer screening necessary?
Absolutely. While smoking dramatically increases a patient’s risk for developing oral cancer, it is not the only cause. The Oral Cancer Foundation recommends regular screening for all adults in order to decrease the number of annual deaths due to oral cancer and improve the recovery rate for this disease.
What is periodontal disease?
Periodontal, gum, disease is the infection or destruction of the soft tissue surrounding and supporting teeth. Gum disease occurs when plaque and tartar buildup at the gum line causes sores and breaks down the connective gum tissue making deeper pockets between teeth and gums where more plaque and tartar can accumulate. Treatment for this damaging oral health problem often includes advanced cleaning, smoothing of tooth roots, topical antibiotics, and laser therapy.
How do I know I need a root canal?
In most cases, patients tell us they know the toothache they experience accompanying root canal infection is different than a regular toothache. While there’s no way for patients to know for sure without consulting our team of experts, some of the most common symptoms include severe toothache, extreme sensitivity to changes in temperature that does not abate quickly, and discoloration or darkening of an individual tooth.
Does teeth whitening actually work?
Many store brand teeth whitening products promise dramatic results and just don’t deliver. However, our professional teeth whitening products utilize higher dosages of active whiteners, more precise application, and extended activation times to deliver smiles up to ten shades brighter.
